Middleware Specialist

Position: Middleware Specialist
Reports To: Director of Middleware Systems
Location: Dallas TX

Position Summary:

The Middleware Specialist role will provide day-to-day hands on installing, managing, maintaining and supporting Middleware components, oversight and governance for key systems administration initiatives and ensure the integrity of the distributed platform hosting services for various critical payment applications. 

Qualifications Required:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering, MIS or equivalent
  • Strong facilitation skills with working committees and steering committees
  • Very good knowledge within the Server ecosystem concerning middleware, CPU and memory use, high availability solutions, and backup & recover
  • Positive track record of delivering large scale complex projects & initiatives
  • Ability to communicate with highly technical/quantitative as well as non-technical partners
  • Practical experience with Middleware such as IBM Connect Direct; IBM MQ or FTP

Qualifications Desired:

  • Master’s degree or education/training in an IT related field
  • Technical Project and\or Product Management Experience
  • Proficient with the MS Office Suite with a focused ability to create concise and compelling presentations in PowerPoint in a demanding and quick paced environment (Flash Reports in PowerPoint, Excel Workbooks, etc.)
  • Collaborative team player that connects across groups with proven ability to influence stakeholders
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellence anticipating needs, mitigating risks and minimizing challenges
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communicates crisply and candidly
  • Proficient in multiple infrastructure disciplines and functions
  • Extensive experience designing and developing enterprise software solutions

  • Experience working across large infrastructure environments and distributed across multiple data centers

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Middleware subject matter expertise and support all aspects of the tools environment including administration and maintenance, business continuity, backup and recovery, capacity management, change management, security management, and installation\configuration management in production and non-production environments
  • Work with other technical staff to coordinate activities and implementations, follow and document procedures, respond, track, and escalate systems incident
  • Follow change management and configuration management procedures and guidelines
  • Serve as technical lead /mentor /representative and provide technical guidance and mentorship
  • Serve as representative for all technical issues/discussion with peer support teams
  • Manage and delegate daily technical group tasks and efforts to appropriate staff/skills
  • Assess impact potential and coordinate and communicate to clients accordingly
  • Oversee and manage BAU projects such as infrastructure software upgrades, patch management
  • Provide oversight for technical deployment plans and system utilization reports
  • Extensive knowledge of core Security components such as high availability/federation/replication
  • Provide assistance and problem support to application developers, business analysts and business users
  • Recommend database solutions aligned with the organizational initiatives and recognized problem areas
  • Architect, deploy and champion adherence of security best practice methodologies to stakeholders across the estate
  • Ensure synchronicity between application lifecycle environments related to infrastructure components
  • Coordinate with the application development team to ensure the continuity of the security applications related to upgrades, versions, patches, and new releases
  • Collaborate with the Information Security department to design and implement corporate security standards
  • Create, maintain and present detailed technical documentation and executive summaries necessary to support the security tools operations for key stakeholders, including senior management
  • Ability to facilitate productive meetings at the work group and steering committee levels of TCH
  • Executes the proper risk/issue disciplines to deliver the best outcomes for our customers, clients, and shareholders and to protect our company’s reputation
  • Driving consensus and resolving conflicts quickly
  • Thinking broadly about interdependencies
  • Establishing and maintaining program management standards, tools and routines including but not limited to:
    • Capacity planning and forecasting
    • Structuring of programs and projects
    • Resourcing/forecasting
    • Governance and control
    • Aggregate portfolio/program reporting
    • Ability to create work materials in a timely manner

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with internal and external partners to guarantee continuous infrastructure availability
  • Suggest and implement continuous improvement, automation efforts across the database ecosystem
  • First contact to stakeholders and clients pertaining to middleware related requests
  • Provide technical advice and industry best practices related to middleware technologies
  • Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Serve as technical lead/mentor/representative and act as proxy for manager when required

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
