Position: Research Specialist and Project Coordinator
Reports To: EMD Deputy General Counsel
Location: Winston-Salem, NC

Position Summary:

Candidates for the Research Specialist & Project Coordinator position should possess strong written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, extremely well-organized and detail-oriented, be able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. The position would be well-suited to a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is analytical, quick and meticulous. S/he must be able to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as part of a team.

Qualifications Required:

  • At least 1 year of experience in an office or like environment either through strong internships or professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize, organize and express complex thoughts
  • Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills; ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word Processing, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and see projects through to completion
  • Must have a professional demeanor and be able to effectively work with staff at all levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidential information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, track and summarize legislative, regulatory, private sector, think tank, law firm, trade association and academic developments and events in the payments and cybersecurity sectors
  • Prepare summaries of legal department advocacy and other issues and develop Board, Committee, Regulatory and other presentations regarding the same
  • Prepare weekly advocacy reports (both internal and external)
  • Image/scan or convert records in PDF format and post them online making them available to employees
  • Prepare risk management and business continuity planning reports for legal department and update key metrics and other information in risk management reporting software
  • Develop annual Payments System Risk Symposium agenda; interface with panelists and manage panel preparation activities; interface with conference staff on all issues relating to Symposium
  • Manage legal department meeting agendas and related materials
  • Assist legal staff with research and other related projects

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
