Q.)
Our Originator initiated duplicate ACH credits in error, followed by a reversing transaction for
one of the entries when they realized their mistake; however, the RDFI returned the reversal as
NSF. Can the Originator reinitiate the returned REVERSAL?
A.) The ACH Rules do not prevent the re-initiation of
the reversal as long as it will still be made available to the RDFI within five banking days
following the settlement date of the erroneous entry. It must also contain REVERSAL in the
company entry description field. Keep in mind that the Originator must make a reasonable
attempt to notify the Receiver of the reversing entry no later than the settlement date of the
reversing entry. (ACH Operating Rules, Article 2, Section 2.9)
