Position: Network Engineering Specialist - Wireless Infrastructure
Reports To: VP, Network Engineering
Location: Winston-Salem, NC or Dallas TX

Position Summary:

The Network Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the wireless network infrastructure, including managing the installation and daily functionality of the network. The engineer will also assist in designing, building and maintaining The Clearing House’s internal and external network infrastructure. 

Qualifications Required:

  • Must have 5 to 7 years of relevant IT experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; graduate degree preferred
  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call support and be able to deploy changes during off-hour change control windows
  • Must be able to rack and stack equipment, up to 25 pounds
  • Cisco CCNA required, CCIE Enterprise Wireless is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco technologies and internetworking concepts, protocols and methods are required
  • Must have experience in network design, operational support, and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, firewall, associated software tools and cabling in a large LAN/WAN environment
  • Required travel up to 5% per year
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be proficient with project coordination to manage the execution of maintenance activities and network outages  

Qualifications Desired:

  • Experience working with Cisco’s Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controllers and 9130 Wireless Access points
  • A good understand of Cisco’s DNA Center and Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Working knowledge of auditing, hardening standards and compliance of networks and network devices
  • Strong and effective troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with the OSI model
  • Hands-on experience working with Cisco routers and switches including Nexus products
  • MPLS network design and support
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office & Visio documentation/diagramming
  • Strong understanding of network performance monitoring tools and compliance checking such as WhatsUp Gold, SolarWinds, RestorePoint or OpManager
  • Working knowledge of F5 GTM/LTM load balancers and IPS/IDS
  • Must be able to use packet analyzer and evaluate trace files, such as Wireshark
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, applications and utilities
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL and DNS Protocols
  • Solid understanding of IT Security best practices with extensive knowledge of firewalls
  • Includes installing, configuring and supporting firewalls (Cisco)
  • Working knowledge of RSA security products
  • Experience working with Virtual Private Networks
  • Ability to develop and maintain scripts using Visual Basic, Python and Secure CRT
  • Hands-on experience with multiple virtualization technologies, including VMWare and VMware NSX
  • Expert hands-on knowledge with latest cloud computing technologies
  • Strong understanding of the virtualization, cloud computing and systems management industry (including competition and customer needs/gaps)
  • Working knowledge of wireless network, including access points, controllers and wireless management

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Deployment and daily maintenance of the wireless infrastructure
  • Review of network systems hardening configurations based on company standards
  • Participates in the planning, designing, implementation, installation, testing, supporting and maintenance of the network
  • Responsible for network system quality assurance and must be consistent with installation standards and project development methodology
  • Assists in preparing project budgets and unit budgets
  • Obtains quotes and assists in the preparation of proposals for network equipment
  • Must be able to create and maintain the configuration and procedural documentation for accuracy and usability
  • Must be able to develop [improve] and implement efficient network utilization strategies
  • Assist in the installation of equipment and cables
  • Maintain a secure platform for internal and external systems by reviewing and replacing at-risk and EOL equipment
  • Provide operations monitoring and reporting systems for all network environments
  • A working knowledge of network security models which include HSMs, encryption, authentication, key management and cryptography

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
