Position: Specialist, Database Administration
Reports To: Director, Database Systems
Location: Dallas TX, New York, NY, or Winston-Salem, NC

Position Summary:

This role will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and day-to-day activities related to the Technology Infrastructure and Platform Systems Database portfolio within TCH Operations and Technology, with oversight and governance for key systems administration initiatives ensuring the integrity of the distributed database services for our customer facing applications and corporate systems portfolio.

Qualifications Required:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering, MIS or equivalent 
  • 5-10 years as an Microsoft SQL Server subject matter expert in IT/financial services 
  • Broad knowledge in SQL Server 2016 Always on Availability Groups Database (and later) Administration techniques and strategies in a High Availability environment
  • Database Administration experience in a SQL Server Enterprise environment utilizing high availability/disaster recovery features
  • Extensive knowledge of core infrastructure components such as high availability/federation/replication
  • Positive track record of delivering projects & initiatives 
  • Ability to communicate with highly technical/quantitative individuals as well as non-technical partners

Qualifications Desired:

  • Master’s degree or combination of education, training/certifications and experience in an IT-related field 
  • Proficient with the MS Office Suite

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review, plan and deploy SQL Server assigned product maintenance releases in accordance with prioritized lists of enhancements and defects
  • Maintain a customer centric approach with our internal and external clients on behalf of the Database Systems organization
  • Provide SME technology support of SQL Server areas that addresses production incidents in a timely manner
  • Participate in technology strategy and planning initiatives respective to the Database estate and enterprise landscape
  • Collaborate with the application development staff to implement new database technologies
  • Adhere to change management best practices in all deployments and database implementations
  • Deploy new databases and database changes to support application processing
  • Production incident support including after hours and on-call weekend support as required
  • Provide 3rd party application support with relation to databases – testing, architecting and implementation enterprise solutions
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support all aspects of the SQL Server environment including administration and maintenance, business continuity, backup and recovery, capacity management, change management, security management, and installation\configuration management in production and non-production environments
  • Work with other technical staff to coordinate activities and implementations, follow and document procedures, respond, track, and escalate systems incidents
  • Oversee and manage BAU projects such as infrastructure software upgrades, patch management
  • Recommend innovative solutions aligned with the organizational initiatives and recognized problem areas 
  • Coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure the continuity of the applications related to upgrades, versions, patches, and new releases
  • Collaborate with the Architecture department to ensure products and projects align to the TCH Reference Architecture guidelines
  • Driving consensus and resolving conflicts quickly 
  • Thinking broadly about interdependencies 
  • Additional responsibilities include: 
    • Work closely with internal and external partners to guarantee continuous infrastructure availability 
    • Suggest and implement standard processes and procedures, continuous improvement, and automation efforts across the enterprise
    • Provide technical leadership, advice and industry best practices as first contact to stakeholders and clients pertaining to enterprise infrastructure related requests
    • Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned

Performance Standards:

  • Performance is evaluated twice per year through a mid-year review and an annual review 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
