Associations Comment on CFPB Assessment of Remittance Transfer Rule

The Clearing House (TCH), BAFT, the CBA, and the ABA, submitted a letter to the CFPB in response to the Bureau’s notice and request for information (“RFI”) regarding its planned assessment of regulations pertaining to consumer remittance transfers under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act. In the letter, the Associations (i) suggest that the Bureau’s assessment should include a determination of the impact of the rule on the availability, cost, and features of remittance services and (ii) identify provisions of the rule that should be retained, eliminated, modified, or clarified. In particular, the Associations stressed the need to extend or make permanent the ability of banks to provide estimated disclosures after the 2020 sunset of the temporary depository institution exception.
