Q.) We have an account holder who received a future-dated U.S. Treasury stimulus check in the mail. Can we cash these checks prior to check date?
A.) The U.S. Treasury has begun mailing stimulus checks, with 5 - 7 million checks going out every week for the foreseeable future. Some may be presented before the pay date. Consider the provisions of UCC that state a financial institution may pay a check that is future-dated. This would include a U.S. Treasury check. There may be some impact if an FI or check casher declines to honor until the date of the check and it is their choice; however, we have heard the FIs are generally accepting the checks and processing as they are received. Scholarship
In honor of Fred Laing, our long-time colleague and former Dean of TPI who passed away unexpectedly in November 2019, TCHPA will award a 2020 tuition scholarship ($2300 value) to one lucky member. If interested, please send an email to education.services@theclearinghouse.org by close of business on Friday, May 8th and include the following information:
- Attendee name, title and organization name
- Number of years in the payments industry and the various positions held (operations, sales, branch)
- Email and phone number
- A brief description of why you feel you are the best candidate to be awarded the scholarship (100 words or less)
The winning application will be selected from those who apply according to the instructions above. Entries must be submitted by 5:00pm ET on Friday, May 15th. Winners will be notified by May 29th. Lodging and travel will be at winner’s expense. Please seek manager's approval prior to submitting your application email.

2020 NCP Exam Prep Webinar Series – On Demand
New Multi-Session Series, Just Added!
For the first time ever, the NCP Prep Webinar Series is being offered On-Demand. Traditionally, session recordings have been made available only to series registrants to use as a review and prep resource while studying for the exam but because of the COVID pandemic, ECCHO moved the NCP Exam window later in the year (now August 29-October 3rd, 2020). With this in mind, there is still time for others to order this valuable training and take the exam this year.

A Virtual Experience in 2020

Concerns over the COVID-19 Pandemic and shelter-in-place orders for Michigan and Puerto Rico have forced TCHPA to change plans for the previously scheduled in-person Payments University events. To avoid cancelling altogether, we have decided to re-schedule this year’s University as a virtual event and present all topics via live webinars scheduled over the course of two days.

There are still a lot of great topics on the agenda, that will be of interest to those who are new to their payments career and seasoned professionals alike. And although we’ll lose some of the ‘togetherness’ of the face-to-face event, the virtual event is now available to our larger audience, including some who may not have been able to attend due to travel restrictions to the original locations. |
