Position Summary:

The role of the Sales Engineer is to drive the sales and onboarding of banks and channel partners which are adopting The Clearing House (TCH)’s new Real Time Payments (RTP) platform. The Sales Engineer will execute technical support as part of the sales strategy for the platforms to develop appropriate solutions and building technical relationships with each potential partner. During the sales process, the Sales Engineer will work with the TCH Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team and / or TCH Product Development team to address partner-specific requirements (e.g. product configuration, connectivity, and security). The Sales Engineer will work with the TCH Operations & Technology (O&T) teams as a key interface / relationship manager to the bank and/or channel partner during the implementation, configuration, and testing of the RTP platform. Recommend and participate in Process Improvement initiatives to enhance overall TCH efficiency and client satisfaction.

Qualifications Required:

  • Strong knowledge of various payment networks (e.g. credit card, debit, ACH) Strong knowledge of core processing, settlement services, administrative services (e.g. reporting), value-added services (e.g. fraud management), and connectivity options (e.g. MPLS, VPN) on bank payment applications/platforms, as well as familiarity of current payments regulations and banking standards (e.g. ISO 20022)
  • Proactive, self-starter who can multi-task, prioritize deliverables with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the field of Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience working in the Financial Services/Banking industry
  • 5 years of experience working in technical sales, sales engineering, or technical consulting (implementation)
 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve in a consultative role to help Financial Institutions (FIs) and tech partners understand the implications and trade-offs of implementation options, explain the technical capabilities/limitations of the systems, and facilitate the decision-making process to select a platform connectivity option
  • Coordinate with both the internal and external O&T organizations to get technical issues answered during the sales and onboarding process, including API/integration, technical infrastructure, and security discussions
  • Support FIs and tech partners with development, implementation and go-live planning
  • Support deployed FIs and tech partners in architectural and messaging upgrade planning
  • Serve as a product advocate for new technical products, through all stages of the pre-sales process, working with both internal and external Product teams
  • Document requirements based on client specifications
  • Maintain current knowledge of TCH business operations, strategies, and existing technology products, services and capabilities with the capacity to explain these capabilities to a non-technical audience
  • Support the TCH Project Manager with client interactions as requested
  • Effectively communicate & build confidence with different potential client stakeholders (IT, Product, sales, executive management, etc.)
  • Reports/Portal Training – general training and retraining for FIs and tech partners
  • Support O&T and RTP Product Advocates on specific incidents – providing FI/tech partner context or background.  Not to be prime researcher or communicator to FI/tech partner
  • Support RTP Product Advocates and TCH Sales team in technical implications of SLA reports or incidents (missed SLA response times, excessive time offline, etc.)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. A significant amount of travel may be required.
